Stop unfair labor practices, demands ACT Teachers Party-list in support of an impending strike by Philippine Airlines ground crew personnel.

Last week, the PAL Employees Association (PALEA) served a Notice of Strike to the Department of Labor and Employment. In light of a massive retrenchment affecting 2,600 employees, the group is condemning the company’s decision to contract out the functions and positions from the regular rank-and-file.

The Notice of Strike came after the dismissal of PALEA’s Motion for Reconsideration in their charges of unfair labor practices against the country’s official flag carrier.

DOLE stipulated that the outsourcing and closure of the In-Flight Catering, Airport Services, and Call Center Reservation Operations are “just, reasonable, humane, and lawful exercise of its management prerogative.”

Representative Antonio Tinio said that the DOLE decision laid a dangerous precedent for labor laws: “The PALEA case proves that management prerogative will always prevail over the basic rights of employees to job security and tenure.”

ACT Teachers Partly-list is also concerned in improving the compensation of public school teaching personnel. Through House Bill 2142, a teacher’s wage will be raised from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 15 – or from P15,649 to P24,887. ###
