Last year, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) campaigned for the Ten Point Demand

for Greater Budget for Education which included  the demand to  increase the clothing allowance of teachers and all government employees  to P6,000/year. Nationwide, teachers under ACT, led this campaign and after a series of mass dialogues and delegations to concerned agencies, the campaign  bore fruit.

Thereafter, Alliance of Concerned Teachers Partylist Representative wrote again to Education Secretary Armin Luistro about the General Appropriations  Act of 2012 that the clothing allowance can be increased to a maximum  of P5,000.

In a recent dialogue of ACT with DepEd-NCR, Mr. Paul Garcia, DepEd-NCR Budget Chief told Ms. France Castro that the clothing allowance has been increased to P5,000. “Fellow teachers, let us claim and rejoice our victory,” Ms France Castro, Secretary-general of ACT pointed out.

“Again this is one concrete proof that our collective actions within and without the classrooms is a potent tool so that the government will act on our specific demands. Brace yourselves then for more campaigns to lead and launch,” Ms

Castro ended.#####
