ACT Teachers Rep. Tinio: PNoy denied desperately needed relief to 2M SSS pensioners

PRESS RELEASE

Reference: ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio L. Tinio (09209220817)

Rep. Antonio Tinio on Pres. Aquino’s veto of the SSS pension bill

Pres. Aquino has denied desperately needed relief to two million SSS pensioners, many of whom receive as little as P1,200 per month.
The convenient bugbear of reduced actuarial life cannot be used to justify the veto because there’s more than enough time to implement measures that would improve the revenues of SSS.
We urge our colleagues in Congress to stand with the pensioners and override the President’s veto. ###

(Rep. Tinio is co-author of House Bill 5842, which was passed by Congress last November to increase to P3,200 and P4,000 the current monthly pensions for SSS members who have at least 10 and 20 years in contributions, respectively. The bill is principally authored by his fellow Makabayan congressman BAYAN MUNA Rep. Neri Colmenares.)
