Progressive lawmakers attend People’s SONA 2011

26 July 2011 No Comment

The House Makabayan bloc, composed of progressive party-lists ACT Teachers, BAYAN MUNA, GABRIELA Women’s Party, ANAKPAWIS and KABATAAN joined thousands of protesters along Commonwealth Avenue during President Benigno “Noynoy” III Aquino’s second State of the Nation Address, July 25.

The people’s solons were united in saying that Aquino’s speech failed to address the most pressing issues of the country such as land reform, human rights, social services like education and health, wage hikes of the workers among others.

“PNoy’s SONA was a patchwork of band-aid solutions, ranging from the Conditional Cash Transfer Program to the DOST’s anti-dengue mosquito trap, held together not by a coherent vision of development but by mere rhetoric—the overworked wang-wang metaphor,” said ACT Teachers Party-List Representative Antonio L. Tinio.
