Reaction of ACT Teachers Rep. Tinio on CGMA’s detention at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital

PRESS RELEASE
December 1, 2011

Reaction of ACT Teachers Rep. Tinio on CGMA’s detention at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital: “It appears that a double standard continues to prevail in our justice system. If the judge’s ruling is based solely on the testimony of Mrs. Arroyo’s personal physician that she is suffering from colitis and diarrhea, then by that same yardstick, thousands of ordinary detainees must be afforded the same consideration and likewise be placed under hospital arrest. But the fact is, they are not. They continue to languish in jail despite suffering far worse ailments. The political prisoner Crisanto Fat, an ordinary farmer from Negros, died of a heart condition while in detention while his plea for medical treatment went unheeded.”
