Stop killing farmers, end all-out war -solons

ACT Teachers Party-List Representatives Antonio Tinio and France Castro condemned the killing of a farmer couple yesterday in Compostela Valley.
According to the report of Karapatan – Southern Mindanao Region, Leonela Tapdasan Pesadilla, 55, and Ramon Dagaas Pesadilla, 59, were shot dead inside their house by two unidentified men around 9 in the evening. Witnesses said that the gunmen forcibly entered the Pesadillas’ home and immediately shot at them.
“In just two months, eighteen farmers were already killed. According to alarming data from the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, one farmer is killed every three days under Oplan Kapayapaan. The government’s declaration of an all-out war is apparently targeting mass activists, indigenous peoples and farmers who, like Leonela and Ramon, assert genuine land reform and support Lumad children’s education,” said Tinio.
The couple, who were members of the Compostela Farmers Association (CFA), donated a parcel of land to the Lumad school Salugpungan Learning Center in Spur Dos, Barangay Ngan, Compostela.
“These extrajudicial killings must stop at once, along with the all-out war and the illegal arrests and other rights violations against farmers and activists perpetrated under Oplan Kapayapaan,” said Castro. “We also demand accountability for the killings and excesses of law enforcement officers under Oplan Tokhang.”
“We urge the Duterte administration to scrap the deceptively named Oplan Kapayapaan, a military solution to armed conflict, and immediately restart peace talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines,” the solons ended. ###
